If there is a ground zero for VetCraft it would have to be Veteran Outdoors. When I was struggling the hardest to deal with the crazy in my head I was introduced to Cody, Brad, and Toby by my battle buddy, JWT. Veteran Outdoors is a non-profit organization that provides fully sponsored hunts and excursions for veterans. I attended a fund raising dinner for them and saw first hand what they were doing to change the lives of the people they took on these hunts. If you have never been on a hunt, they are not easy or cheap. There is a lot of time, money, and coordination involved and these guys take care of it all. Ranch and lease owners donate hunts, sometimes several, every year and others donate money for equipment that makes the hunts even more special.
At the root of their organization is a love of their country and for the people that serve in its defense. Regardless of your injury ( physical, mental, or otherwise) they go out of their way to make you feel like a part of the world again and will sit and talk, listen, or just eat and drink with you. They have a genuine interest in each person they meet and are the first people I met that I felt like I could relate and open up to. After meeting them I volunteered my services to them and stand ready whenever they need me. Because of their influence on me, it was a no-brainer when my wife suggested I take my leathercraft and teach others how it helped me. The rest, as they say, is history.
Toby Nunn also has his own VSO called Warrior Media Solutions that focuses on positive veteran relations.
